Please see the explanations below for our crew options. Please contact us if you have any questions about each of these options before booking your charter.
A bareboat charter is an arrangement for the chartering of a boat whereby no crew or provisions are included as part of the arrangement. Instead, people who “rent” the vessel from the owner are responsible for taking care of such things. In a bareboat charter, the owner gives possession of the boat to the charterer. The giving up of possession by the owner is the defining characteristic of a bareboat charter.
We do not require a license or certification, but we do ask that you complete a sailing resume. Once you have booked your charter, we will send you a Charter Agreement and Terms & Conditions where you will find the resume form. We will review your experience and take a look at the boats you sailed and the similarity of vessel you are looking to charter. If we feel your resume is somewhat weak we will require you to have a check out skipper to assess your knowledge and skills the first day at the cost of $350.
If you prefer to have a captain onboard with you for the entire length of the charter we are happy to facilitate that request. A captain is $350 per day, plus you provide for all meals and, of course, it is customary to tip. Customary gratuity for captained charters is 20% of the base charter rate, so be sure to budget for that. If you want to learn more about sailing, you might enjoy have an instructional captain onboard to share their knowledge. The rate for an instructional captain is $375 per day, plus meals and gratuity.
Please keep in mind that our Captains will not sleep in the bow cabin, so please plan accordingly when choosing your yacht. If the boat does not have a separate Skipper's Quarters, you will need an extra cabin within in the main accommodations of the yacht for the Captain.
CAPTAIN ONLY CHARTER
$350.00 per day
A Captain only charter is a great option for guests who want to get the true Virgin Islands sailing experience without the responsibility of navigating. The Captain will do the sailing and navigating and the guests will assist where needed. Guests are responsible for paying for all meals (on and off boat). This means that you will do your own provisioning, cook your own meals aboard, as well as prepare extra for your Captain. The Captain is not responsible for washing dishes, cleaning cabins, bartending, or any other housework while on charter. They are simply there to assure that you have a safe and enjoyable trip while sharing their local knowledge of the islands and destinations.
